New Hanover County, in coordination with consulting firm LSL Planning, is undergoing a comprehensive review and update of the county’s land development regulations. From this process, multiple land-use codes will be consolidated into one comprehensive document called the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).
At this stage in the process, the UDO Blueprint Report, which can be viewed here, has been completed and it details the consultant’s analysis of the impact and outcomes of the county’s current regulations. The report establishes if the existing regulations help or hinder the county in accomplishing the goals of the Comprehensive Plan (PlanNHC), and identifies the necessary changes in order to implement PlanNHC. The report was presented to the Board of Commissioners, Planning Board and the general public on April 27, 2017. The meeting presentations can be found here.
Additional public forums, workshops, and hearings will be held throughout the UDO process. As the document is drafted, opportunities for public input will be publicized and announced at regular intervals. The final project is anticipated to be complete in the summer of 2018.
Notes from the first public meeting on April 27, 2017 are available here.
